What We're Working On
Adversaries to Innovation
The game where innovators turn adversaries into allies
Adversaries to Innovation is a collaborative game created by Glendale IPA staff Greg Kajszo and Michelle Priest. You win by sharing strategies that turn “adversaries” in your work life into meaningful allies. The game is meant to help teams facilitate problem solving techniques in an environment that encourages clever and creative thinking. Best of all, we’ve put it into the public domain, which means that is it now a free resource for anyone who wants to use it as an educational tool!
Adversaries to Innovation is the property of the City of Glendale, California and is to be used for public and educational use only.

Digital Fee Calculator
An internal audit revealed that when calculating fees there weren’t any formal instructions for completing contracts; leading to extraneous processing times. We assembled a team with the Community Services and Parks Department to create the Digital Fee Calculator, which reduced calculation time from an average of 23 minutes to 2 minutes.
Machine Learning for Transformers
Inspired by a recent audit on transformer inventory, IPA’s Innovation Team partnered with Glendale Water and Power to develop a machine learning model capable of predicting transformer lifespan in the City with an 80% confidence score (and growing).
IPA was invited to partner with the Glendale Fire Department to build a custom recruitment website that incorporates user friendly tools and intuitive design features. Glendale Fire Department’s website, JoinGFD.com, assists candidates in navigating the multi-step process.

IPA and the Lean Six Sigma team launched a City-wide job shadowing program to break down bureaucratic silos, and allow employees to share institutional knowledge to learn more about how their individual roles fit into the larger picture of City operations.
Tree Management Consolidation
IPA and the Lean Six Sigma team helped consolidate tree management into the Public Works Department in order to facilitate an efficient allocation of resources and simplicity for residents and staff.
Employee Incentive Tracker
IPA created a tool for Glendale’s Integrated Waste team that reduced data logging redundancies and automatically generated reports for IW staff. The reports promote fiscal responsibility and improved trash collection services; increasing the quality of life for Glendale residents.
